THE MIND BODY CONNECTION

How your thoughts and mindset affect your health and performance…

Being healthy is now widely recognised as an important part of our current culture. We have access to more knowledge and tools than ever, through gyms, diets, personal trainers and coaches.

Life expectancy in the UK is now 82.3 years for men and 85.8 years for women. ‘Healthy life expectancy’, the age up to which people can expect to live healthily, is 63.1 for men and 63.7 for women.

But does health just involve a healthy body or does the mind have a part to play in your well being? At Amino Water, we are not only concerned with the duration of the life you lead but also the quality of that time.

The philosopher Seneca put it well with the statement....

“It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it. Life is long enough, and a sufficiently generous amount has been given to us for the highest achievements if it were all well invested.”

This statement sums it up for us, yes our products are focused around performance but performance isn't anything without the underlying health to support it. This is a more common problem as we age. Invest your time well and make sure you have all bases covered, physical and mental when is comes to your health, happiness and success.

The other point to mention here is that there is a lot of fear around health, particularly about being unhealthy. In our experience the best way to help our team members is to nudge and remind them that by educating yourself and by taking action you are taking responsibility for your health, that way you will have the best chance of being successful. Knowledge is the precursor to action so our job is to help our team gain as much insight as possible. If you don't measure you don't manage.

Here are three potentially controversial videos that explore some key areas in the mind body connection. We always suggest consulting your doctor before doing any sort of bio hacking so that all your options are on the table.

Use these to spike your curiosity as new science will always seem like its on the boarder line off crazy when its new. Leave a comment and don't forget to claim your free sample of Amino Water when you join our newsletter.

Action Steps

  • Be aware there is an ever growing body of evidence that is showing the link between your mind and your health. Once you accept this statement as truth then your have won half the battle.

  • Once you are aware and believe your mindset will affect your health, the next step is to work on personal mental development practices that work on the areas you believe you need to improve. If you don't know what these are, then be brutally honest and look at your symptoms. Self-esteem, jealousy, stress, gratitude or self compassion are some common topics. If you really want some good feedback, ask the closest people around you that you can trust or take an online personally trait test to find out what your character strengths and weaknesses are.

  • The final elements are to do with consistency and resilience. A consistent commitment to improving yourself will give you the greatest results over time. Small changes the you can sustain will give you the best results. Resilience is important for when you forget to do you practise or the break that you take because of holiday, the key in an situation like this is jump straight back on the band wagon and start again.

  • We believe in practicing mental hygiene alongside physical hygiene. This way you will have all bases covered.
